CLASSES with VAL MOORE

This year Val is going to teach on the 1st and 3rd Saturday and 2nd Monday of each month with the exception of June when she will be away. You can choose to do any of the following quilts on any of these days as long as there is a vacancy. Book in sooner rather than later to secure your place. All classes are 4 hours from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.

Snowball Tiles
This quilt features the easily constructed traditional snowball blocks which surround a central floral medallion. Blue and white prints have been used on the tiles with chalky pastel coloured prints at the corners.

Wild and Woolly - An opportunity to let your imagination roam or to be inspired by the designs on offer. Working with large hexagon shapes using woven wool as a background, designs are appliqued, embroidered, embellished, beaded etc. The blocks are pieced together using 'Quilt-As- You- Go' technique so that the finished size can be as large or small as you desire. Skill level: All levels of hand techniques only.

Felt and Fabric Sewing Accessories - Three pretty and practical sewing accesssories designed to organize your pins, needles, scissors, tape measures etc. Hand embroidered, appliqued with felt and fabric and embellished with beads, many techniques will be learned. The result will be a delight to keep or give as a special gift.

Baby Elephant Walk - Cot Quilt
A quilt to melt the heart of any Grandmother or new Mum. Featuring a parade of colourful elephants surrounding a central suggestion of circus tents. Machine piecing, machine applique and both hand and machine quilting.

Note: This quilt could be hand pieced and hand appliqued.

Waratah Wall Quilt
One of the most handsom Australian native flowers is captured in fabric and thread. Machine or hand appliqued onto a dark background and framed by a pieced border, this quilt will bloom at Christmas with it traditional red and green colouring or delight at any time of the year.

Enchanted Garden Cushion 24" x 24" (61cm x 61cm)
Flowers, leaves and colourful creatures are part of this enchanted garden cushion. The appliqué is simple using wool felt, fabric and embroidery thread.  Simple hand embroidery stitches enhance the appliqué.  Several flower designs will be included with the pattern so that each cushion can be one of a kind. A fun and exciting project.

Symbols of Japan
This colourful quilt celebrated the unique beauty of Japanese culture.  The appliqué designs are inspired by MON, a Japanese emblem, badge or crest. MON are highly stylised patterns based on geometric, floral or animal forms.  graphic designers recognise these shapes and forms to be arresting, rhythmic and an unforgettable form of art. A quilt-maker will enjoy working with these lovely designs whilst exploring the placement of colour and tone to best effect.

Slice of Flowers
A colourful one block quilt. the essence of this quilt is the artful blending of large print scraps with complimentary small prints. The cutting is quick, the hand or machine piecing is simple and the sashing is part of the block. Quilt-as-you-go assembly using a walking foot with feed dogs up means you can machine quilt with ease. Gather your scraps (6" squares) and have fun creating this quilt. A comprehensive text giving examples of alternative layouts for this quilt is included in this class.

Sugar and Spice
A circular theme is a feature of this quilt. Starting with a central pieced star, a series of appliquéd and pieced circular borders are added. Many techniques are explored, including hand and machine piecing, foundation piecing, hand and machine appliqué. The skilful use of colour takes this quilt beyond ordinary to extra special.

Sampler Sonata
Be inspired by how appealing a Sampler Quilt can look and how many techniques can be learned whilst making this quilt. Some techniques include drafting four pieced blocks from simple to more complex, different methods of hand appliqué, setting blocks "on point" and adding corners and borders and also adding surface texture with padding and embroidery.

CLASSES with MARGARET CORMAK

Margaret's classes meet once a week on Wednesday between 9.30 and 12.30 or 1.45 and 4.45. Students af all abilities are welcome. Margaret has won prizes at the NSW and Queensland quilt shows including "Best of Show" and "Best Use of Colour". Over her years of teaching, Margaret has taught:

Sit and Sew
Do you need help with anything patchwork or quilting? - then this is the class for you. Come along and get help with cutting, piecing, appliqué, binding etc. Do you have an unfinished project? - Margaret is happy to help you finish it off too.

You will need to book as places fill up quickly. Margaret's classes for 2017 start on 1st February

Classes every WEDNESDAY morning  9.30am - 12.30pm and afternoon 12.45pm - 3.45pm
Cost $30.00 per session of 3 hours each Wednesday.

Blossom Time - Essentially, this is two blocks that are repeated to give a very effective finished quilt. You will learn in a day, how to make the blocks, put them together and finally, quilt it, using the quilt-as-you-go technique.

CLASSES with MEG ORR

Morning Star

 This is a totally machine pieced large hexagon quilt using the quilt-as-you-go technique. It can be a scrappy quilt, or a more select colour choice can be used. When finished a large star is featured on the quilt. Some quilting experience is beneficial. The quilt will not be made in a day but the ability to piece and then join the blocks will be achieved and class notes will make it possible to finish at home. There is some pre-cutting necessary before the class.

Batik Puzzle

 Have fun with a jelly roll or cut your own 2 1/2" strips, if you prefer. Start with some simple quilt-as-you-go piecing and then enjoy cutting up and re-arranging the blocks to create your own special design. This is just table topper size but can be expanded if you wish to create a large quilt. It should be possible to achieve a major part of the piecing in class but finishing at home will be possible using the supplied class notes. Beginner quilters should be able to achieve this project as long as they are on friendly terms with their machines. There is some pre-cutting necessary before class.

Quilting Basics One Day Workshop
In this class students will learn how to cut fabric using a rotary cutter and ruler. They will cut strips, squares and triangles. They will make binding and learn how to attach it to a project. We will be looking at different ways to make templates and learn about different types of appliqué. Different types of wadding will be looked at. A small project will be commenced in this class. This is a class for those wanting to begin quilting or very new quilters who would like to gain confidence as they undertake their first projects.

Topsy Turvy  Quilt

Take some fabric squares, make a few cuts with your rotary cutter and swap them around to make a great play quilt for a small child.  Lots of fun and very quick using quilt-as-you-go techniques.  All machine sewn and well within the scope of a confident beginner quilter.  Some easy pre-cutting before class is necessary

Design and Technique - Non Traditional Catherdral Window                          Learn how to make a wide variety of projects using this technique. You will learn how to make, not just the traditional looking Catherdral Window block using squares, but also diamond and teardrop shapes.  Mostly machine sewn with some easy hand sewing needed to complete the shapes. No project will be made in class but you will go home with small samples and hopefully lots of inspiration to design and make your own Catherdral Window beauty

Fancy Fans Quilt
Have fun using some of your favourite fabrics to make these beautiful Japanese style fans to go on your quitl. The blocks can be laid out in various ways to create the look you want, so every quilt has  personality of its own. This quilt is the perfect project as it can be use to decorate your table, bed or wall. The Fancy Fans quilt is made using an easy quilt-as-you-go technique.

Tulip Table Runner - Perfect for biginners!

 A simple yet beautiful varation of Catherdral Window. Suitable for beginners but must be able to use a rotary cutter and ruler.

SATURDAY     11th February 2017     9.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m.       1 x 7 hour lesson           $85.00 (incl. lunch)  

Split Personality

 Enjoy making this quilt which indeed has a split personality.  The back and front can look completely different even though they are made at the same time.  This is a quilt-as-you-go project so the blocks are completely finished before they are joined with simple joining strips.
Suitable for most levels of quilter but there is a lot of rotary cutting and the sewing machine needs to have a walking foot attachment.

CLASSES with TITA LEACH
Tita is happy to teach any of her quilts, past or present at her Sunday classes.
A huge variety of choices are available in Tita's unique style.  The quilts are all pictorial and are created using up to five applique techniques and are embellished using beads, buttons, threads etc.  Emphasis is made on sewing techniques, colour selection, co-ordination, design and having fun.  Following is a list of some of her quilts which you are able to see pictures of at Craft Depot. All quilts are for 1 lesson per month on a Sunday for 9 months, total cost of lessons is $360.00

The Village - Imagine living in one of those picturesque English Villages - that is what this quilt is all about. It is 12 mini quilts depicting images of everyday life in an English Village, which are then attached to a canvas background.

Kylie's Christmas Alphabet - A Christmas quilt made up of 30 appliqued blocks and put together using the quilt-as-you-go method. A good quilt for using up your scraps.

The Sports Quilt - A brand new design. This is a boys quilt depicting ball sports. It is made up of 13 mini quilts or blocks attached to a background canvas using velcro.

Wallpaper Bag - An old favourite - a huge bag constructed in Osnaberg, with appliqued insects, flowers and butterflies.

Redwork Quilt - Applique on Osnaberg - looks stunning in red on a white background but can be completed in any colour.

Purple Ladies - This quilt is made up of 20 mini quilts or blocks that have been appliqued, embellished and attached to a background canvas with buttons. It ends up giving a 3D effect.

Cot Quilt & Two Booster Pillows - These are both child/baby safe and totally constructed with Suffolk Puffs.

The Seaside - This quilt was designed in 2015 and is a series of mini quilts attached to a background canvas. It is a similar size to The First Christmas and The Village.

Santa Sacks - Two bags, with handles, ready to send little people off to bed on Christmas Eve. Trees decorate the reverse side with your choice of a boy or girl on the front. Each child carries a mini stocking, a teddy bear or doll.

The Christmas Tree - A quilted canvas covered with 3D Christmas decorations, including snowmen, angels, baubles, Santas, presents and bunting. Each decoration is pinned onto the background to form the shape of a tree. The ornaments can also be made as a brooch.
